Mining Cole – Part Six

These are my underlines, asterisks, and “remember this” notes and quotes from reading Neil Cole’s awesome book Organic Church. If you’ve never read it and you too have sensed “What’s up with the church?” This just may answer that question for you. God is up to something.

Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone: But if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 12:24 partial, p. 103

Christianity is always just one generation away from extinction. NC, p.105

New Testament Discipleship Pattern: received personally, repeated easily, reproduced strategically. From Thom Wolf, p.110 and 111

After some research and thinking, Paul Kaak and I have come to understand the DNA of the church to be simplified to three things. Divine truth. Nurturing relationships. Apostolic mission. NC, p.115

Do not unravel the DNA. Do not subtract from the DNA. Do not add to the DNA. NC, p.121 DNA instills order amid chaos. NC, p. 124

We also want the person who did the evangelizing to do the baptizing. A saying we often repeat is, “The Bible doesn’t really command us to be baptized, but to be baptizers.” NC, p. 132

I think we are guilty of protecting new believers from depending on God. NC, p. 132 from the chapter: Epidemic Expansion Starts in the Genes.

…whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be a slave of all. Mark 10:43-44, p. 134

…each person is endowed with the authority to accomplish all God intends. Permission from other people above is not necessary if God is the one who issues the command. NC, p.135

Check the archives or article titles top right for Parts 1-5 of Mining Cole. Thanks for reading. If you don’t have a copy of Organic Church, why not? I’d give you mine but it’s dog-earred, marked all over, and well, there may be more germs on it than you’d want? Cheers in Jesus and Merry Christmas to each of you, Bruce Dickey
