Mining Cole – Part Nine, Organic Church by Neil Cole

Reading Neil Cole’s book Organic Church, left my copy underlined and dog-eared, with notes in the margins, fly leafs front and back. Here is the continuation of quotes from this important book on what he discovered as they sought to make disciples and ended up planting hundreds of churches along the way. In two weeks I’ll travel to Texas to hear Neil in person during the Greenhouse Training offered by which is Church Multiplication Associates website founded by Neil as a resource arm of his ministry. Lots of information of how to make disciples who make a difference. Let’s mine a little Cole today, join me. Bruce Dickey

The Lord of the Harvest has directed us to the oikos to spread the Kingdom of God. NC, p. 164

So why are we sent to the wolves? Though He (Jesus) is our protection, He is also on a mission to seek and save the lost sheep, and the wolves tend to gather where there is easy prey. NC, p. 172

We simply cannot skip this important part of church planting. Jesus began both sermons with the same appeal: “Beseech the Lord of the Harvest for workers.” NC, p 173

The 10:2B Virus. Good friends John White and Kenny Moore from Denver Colorado infected me with the bug. NC, p 174 Luke 10:2 says pray for the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the fields white unto harvest. An alarm on Cole’s organizer goes off at 10:02 reminding him to pray for laborers to enter the harvest.

We have another saying in our churches: “Where you go, the King goes, and where the King goes, people bow.” NC, p. 177

Two kinds of lost people that are in the darkness, moths and cockroaches. Turn on the light: the moths are drawn to the light and the cockroaches will flee. (paraphrase) NC, p. 179

All the resources needed for a great harvest are already found in the harvest itself – finances, facilities, future leaders. NC, p. 180

The person of peace becomes the conduit for the passing of the message of the Kingdom to an entire community of lost people. NC, p. 182

Instead of drawing people out of community and robbing what community already existed, Jesus’ plan is to inject the Gospel into an existing community. NC, p186

In the chapter titled: Falling With Style, Cole states: After we gave up on our vision, and I rolled the plans over to Jesus, He began to show us how to do church planting. p. 201
